          હંમેશા સત્યની પરખ થાય એટલે કે સત્યને કસોટીની એરણ પર ચડવું પડે. સુવર્ણનો રંગ પીળો અને પિત્તળનો વર્ણ પણ પીળો, તો બંનેમાંથી શ્રેષ્ઠ ધાતુ તો સુવર્ણ (સોનુ) હોય છે. સુવર્ણને કસોટીના પથ્થર ઉપર ઘસાઇને તેના કેટલા ટકાની અસલિયત છે તેની સાબિતી આપી દેવી પડે છે. હવે સોનું કસોટી પથ્થર ઉપર ઘસાવવાથી મનાઇ કરે તો તે શું સમજવું? તેને તેના મૂલ્યનું ભાન છે તો કસોટીએથી પસાર તો થવું જ પડે તેમાં આનાકાની ન ચાલે, નહીંતર અસલી હોવા છતાં પણ ખોટા ધાતુમાં ગણાઇ જાય.
